Drifting Life
1:11:00 pmThe storms that brought the rain also dealt much destruction to many old trees. This one refused to be defeated.

We have water!
4:02:00 pmSouthern Australia got some decent rain over the summer and boy was it much needed. Here is one of the more beautiful reasons why we need water so badly here. I had heard that many waterfalls had simply seised to be over the past couple years yet the falls were flowing all over Cape Ottawa during a recent getaway with my new housemates.
As an aside, my car had been badly damaged in the same storms that brought life back to the falls. Nature has its ways of sending a message.

Bamboo, Illuminated
3:08:00 amThis is pretty different, but I thought a contrast would be nice. This was taken at night in winter, during Kyoto's annual Hanatourou (literally, flower-lantern-road) light-up.
I miss Japan.

Purple, Again
11:27:00 pmI wonder: did the homeowners paint their pipes purple to match the flowers? Or did they plant those flowers to match their pipes?

Spring Beds
5:47:00 amYou know how people get Winter-depression? I think I'm suffering from lack-of-seasons-depression.

Spring
12:33:00 amSpring bulbs gently nod their heads to greet the sun. I think these are Crocuses(?).

Make a Wish
3:58:00 amFirst time to see real powder snow. I was pretty excited.
First time to try real snow hiking with the spikey aizen boot attachments.
First time to make a winter wish.

After much gnashing of teeth I have added a new feature to this photo, props to Lokesh Dhakar & Fariez the Fachia. Give it a click to check it out. A worthwhile feature or a gimmick, thoughts?
Love, Richie.
Rusty Leaves
1:07:00 pmOn a hike in Toronto's Rouge Valley last fall, we discovered a 1970s car in the middle of the woods. Some wicked photos were had.
And then there were three!
1:42:00 pm
I'm not sure if I'm completely happy with this one yet.
But I think I was rushing to put something up, I hate having empty accounts :P
Its a good idea having a photoblog, and it may even be something that helps me go out and shoot more. Stupid work always getting in the way!
This photo has been done before, but I liked the idea, so I wanted to give it a go, I do like my macro! :P
Set in Stone
12:26:00 amNature just isn't complete without a few nationalistic slogans, when in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea that is.
Note the worn Chinese writing in the bottom of the shot. North Korea abolished Chinese script long ago.
Remnants of a time past.
Chengqin Lake
2:27:00 amthis lake is beautiful...well...i didn't know this it's that beautiful untill i took it with the fish eye thing...yay!
Who rules who?
1:47:00 amLocation: Kumgang Mountain, DPR (North) Korea.
Taken while on a guided hike through the mountains this photo really captures how small I, indeed all the hikers and our guides, felt. Were were dwarfed by the sheer size of the mountain, often is seemed to enclose us on all sides. Even the limitless sky seemed to be in the mountain's palm.
Humans think we rule the world. Perhaps not.
If I was ever going to print a photo the size of a billboard this would be it. Not because it's photographically stunning (the colours are a bit bland to be honest) but just so you could get a feel for just how insignificant we humans are in this big world.

First published photo
2:10:00 pm I received a pleasant email notifying me that my photo on schmap.com was now available on their iphone service.
I had totally forgotten about this photo and the fact that it had been published. They must have stumbled upon the photo while scouring flickr for photos of the Alexandra gardens.
Its a pretty old photo, taken before I even owned a camera. I had borrowed my house-mate's camera for the day, a really basic point and shoot. This photo still makes me smile, though I do somewhat cringe at the heavy sharpening and dodgy jpeg coding and tiny image resolution. Nuri and I were lying in the grass, stomach full of picnic goodies, looking up and the birds flying through the trees on this crisp autumn afternoon. Such a great moment, all the worries of what was to come in our lives, the impossible situations we both faced, all dissolved away to the sound of wind through the autumn leaves.

I still say the number three is one of the best.
