Back in Time

Back in Time, originally uploaded by sodiumswirls.

Singapore's last remaining Kampong (Malay for village), Kampong Buangkok. Unfortunately, it has recently been repossessed by the government, and will probably be redeveloped soon.

The end of an era.
No doubt it will be replaced with another faceless gray concrete colossus.
A bit sad really.

It looks as if you are peering through the fence, trying to catch a cheeky glimpse of your quirky neighbors.

Oh, mind if you give a brief self introduction for the folks who think sodiumswirls is some kind of milkshake?

I just thought it might be cool to add a Google Maps Street view to this post. So we can see the fate of Kampong Buangkok unfold.

A milkshake?! Well, I think I'll let my photos speak for themselves instead... So yea, look forward to more photos!

Oh, I've added a map, but unfortunately there's no street view for this place. Still, we'll be able to track the changes via the aerial snapshot.

I just realized there is a great Aussie movie from the late 90'2 about this very issue of repossession or, in the films case, Statutory Acquisition.
